STOP THE COAL BAILOUT

Tell the President and His Department of Energy: Stop Forcing Us to Pay for Failing Coal Plants

While families are cutting back on groceries, childcare, and basic necessities, the Trump administration is spending $625 MILLION in our taxpayer money to prop up outdated coal plants.

And that’s not the only bill you’re paying.

You’re paying once through your federal taxes.
You’re paying again through higher electricity bills.

Meanwhile, coal executives and corporate utilities cash in.

Take this example: Trump’s Department of Energy ordered a coal plant on Lake Michigan to remain open, costing $615,000 per day.

That’s more than $80 million already, and now the utility wants to spread the cost across 42-45 million people in nine Midwestern states.

If the plant had just closed—as planned!—families could have avoided these higher bills.

They claim coal is cheaper and “keeps the lights on,” but the truth is that forcing old coal plants to stay open costs MORE, not less. Solar and wind are the cheapest sources of new electricity.

At a time when families are stretched thin, no one should be forced to subsidize failing coal plants.
